Seniors can find confidence and flow in Yoga practice at Be You YOGA. There are three key components to a good healthy workout for seniors and they are low impact cardio, resistance training and stretching.  Yoga has the potential to cover all three components.  Seniors need to be extremely careful when choosing a Yoga class as certain forms of Yoga may be too strenuous or require too much flexibility which may put them at risk. The Seniors Class at Be You YOGA has been intentionally designed with these facts in mind, while encompassing all three components, as well as focusing on health and wellbeing. The class is always conducted in a relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere. New research has also suggested that regular practice of yoga may lower an inflammatory protein that is normally linked to ageing and stress. Yoga is useful in reducing pain on physical, mental and emotional levels:  physical through heat, massage and exercise; emotional through relaxation and rest; mental through life involvement.

Be not afraid – for many new members simply venturing into a yoga class is an act of courage as they are often anxious about injuring or embarrassing themselves. Just trying something for the first time is foreign, but at Be You YOGA we want you to “Be You”.  By participating in one of our seniors only classes, it often takes away much of the fear of getting started. At Be You YOGA you won’t be competing with teens wearing skimpy outfits and your experienced teacher will have no more than 8 students in the one class ensuring that you receive the attention and focus you deserve.

Can your older friends and family members touch their toes? If they are anything like 91year old Beatrice, they can. She has been practicing Yoga regularly and comments that yoga has become such a central part of her life that prescriptions and trips to the doctor have not.

There is no doubt that physical activity is good for people no matter what their age. However certain limitations may prevent a senior from engaging in more commonplace forms of exercise such as running, walking, spinning or lifting weights.
